Small
Goes for Record Seventh Illinois PGA Championship
Title
GLENVIEW, Ill. - At the conclusion
of the Nadler Golf Cars 85th Illinois PGA Championship
in 2007, Mike Small made history by winning his
sixth Illinois PGA Championship title, surpassing
Illinois golf legends Bill Ogden and Johnny Revolta,
who each hold five titles. Small looks to distance
himself when play begins in the Nader Golf Cars
86th Illinois PGA Championship/PPNC (PGA Professional

Small, 42, University of Illinois men's head golf
coach, captured last year's Illinois PGA Championship
with a 54-hole-total 202 (63-69-70). His margin
of victory was three strokes over second place finisher
Roy Biancalana, the former PGA teaching professional
at St. Andrews Golf Club. The victory was Small’s
fifth consecutive Illinois PGA Championship title
and sixth overall in the past seven years. No other
player except Small has ever won four titles in
a row.
After being held at Stonewall Orchard Golf Club
in Grayslake, Ill. the past three years, the Championship
moves south to Medinah Country Club’s Course
#1. "We are very excited about Medinah
hosting the Illinois PGA Championship," said
Michael Miller, executive director of the Illinois
PGA. "It will be an amazing experience for
our membership to have the opportunity to compete
at such a historic facility."
The legendary Medinah Country Club has hosted six
major championships including the 1999 PGA Championship,
three U.S. Open Championships (1949, 1975, 1990)
and, most recently, the 2006 PGA Championship. Medinah

Dan
Greiss Elected Honorary Member of the Illinois Section
PGA
GLENVIEW, Ill. - Titleist’s
Dan Greiss was elected as an Honorary Member of
the Illinois Section PGA at the Section’s
Spring Membership Business Meeting on April 7 in
Woodridge, Ill., the Illinois PGA has announced.
Honorary memberships are a vehicle the Illinois
PGA Board of Directors uses to recognize individuals
who have demonstrated superior generosity and support
for the Illinois PGA.
Greiss, 58, born and raised in Chicagoland, was
first exposed to the game of golf in the fall of
1962 when he began caddying at the Glen View Club
in Golf, Ill. He immediately took a liking to the
game and that passion continued through high school,
where he received a varsity letter in golf. After
graduating from Northern Illinois University with
a marketing degree, Greiss was hired at Wilson Sports
to sell Walter Hagen golf equipment in Illinois
and Indiana. In less than two years, through much
dedication and determination, he realized a 50%
increase in sales, resulting in a promotion to Wilson
Sales Representative in the south Chicago territory.
"We are proud to welcome Dan Griess as
an Honorary Member of the Illinois PGA," said
Terry Russell, president of the Illinois PGA. "Dan
has been a tremendous supporter of the Illinois
PGA and our membership for many years. His dedication
to the game of golf has been inspirational to both
our members and his counterparts in the local golf
community." Read

Hawthorn
Woods Country Club to Host 59th Illinois Open Championship
GLENVIEW, Ill. - The Illinois PGA
has announced that Hawthorn Woods (Ill.) Country
Club will serve as host for the 59th Illinois Open
Championship, the largest and most prestigious event
on the Illinois PGA calendar, scheduled for July
28-30, 2008. "We're excited to continue
the long-standing tradition of conducting the Illinois
Open on a championship-caliber golf course,”
said Illinois PGA Executive Director Michael Miller.
"Hawthorn Woods, while relatively new on the
Chicago golf scene, is a premier Arnold Palmer Signature
Golf Course that will provide a stern test to the
state's top amateur and professional players. The
7100-yard course flows through forest and wetlands
and brings into play some dramatic elevation changes.
I think players will truly enjoy the golf course,
and the facilities are among the best of any private
club in the area."
The 59th edition of the Illinois Open Championship
will mark the first time in seven years that a course
other than The Glen Club in Glenview, Ill., will
